Tucked away on a remote atoll in the Maldives, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands was everything I had imagined and more. Think endless turquoise sea, flour-soft sand and a feeling of total seclusion that makes you wonder why you ever put up with less. I recently had the joy of staying here, and from the moment I arrived it felt like slipping into a dream you never want to wake up from.

The Ritz-Carlton name carries a certain weight in the world of luxury travel, but in the Maldives, even the most prestigious brands need to work hard to stand out. With so many extraordinary resorts scattered across this island nation, expectations are high. And yet, from the outset, it was clear this place had that special something.

My journey began at Malé airport, where I was met and whisked aboard the hotel’s private yacht. Most resorts offer boat transfers, but this felt different, more considered. It was sleek, serene and the kind of welcome that sets the tone perfectly. I honestly could have floated there for hours, cocktail in hand, sea breeze in my hair, but the island awaited.

The architecture at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives is striking yet sympathetic to its surroundings. Everything feels calm and intentional. My villa, one of their Beach Pool Villas, was a slice of paradise. Although first-timers might go for an overwater villa (and I’d still say that is a must at least once), I personally love the grounded luxury of a beach villa. There’s something so peaceful about waking up to the soft rustle of palms and having your own stretch of sand just steps away.

It’s the thoughtful little details that left the biggest impression. Refillable Bamford products in the bathroom, daily treats like homemade date and cacao cookies, and even a beautiful raffia beach bag left for me to take home (which I very gladly did). Floor-to-ceiling windows opened up to the most breathtaking views, and it felt like every element had been designed with both beauty and wellbeing in mind.

One of the standout features of the stay was the Aris Meeha concept, Ritz-Carlton’s answer to a personal butler. Our Aris Meeha, Muneef, was a star. Unfailingly kind, quietly efficient and always one step ahead, he had an uncanny way of knowing exactly what we needed before we’d even asked. Whether it was booking a last-minute spa appointment or making sure my cookie jar was always full, he did it with warmth and genuine care.

Speaking of the spa, I still think about my time there. The design alone is remarkable, a floating sanctuary with curved wooden pods that seem to hover over the lagoon. I booked in for their signature B Balanced massage, and from the moment I stepped into the tranquil reception, I felt the stress melt away. Partnering with Bamford (a brand I already love), the spa focuses on holistic wellness and everything about the experience felt nurturing and personalised.

Food is another major highlight here. With seven different restaurants on the island, you’re genuinely spoilt for choice. Beach Shack became my go-to for relaxed lunches, especially their Tuna Tartare which was unbelievably fresh. For something more elevated, IWAU offered an unforgettable evening of Japanese fine dining under the stars. Watching the chefs work their magic just added to the whole experience.

Breakfast at La Locanda deserves a special mention. It’s one of those morning rituals that make you want to become a morning person. Watching the sun rise over the water with a green juice in one hand and a just-baked pastry in the other was the kind of luxury that feels both indulgent and grounding. I’ll admit, I probably had one too many of their impossibly flaky croissants, but when they’re that good, who’s counting?

What really sets The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands apart is its ability to deliver luxury without ever being overbearing. It’s refined, it’s beautiful, and most of all, it feels tailored to you. Despite being relatively new, the resort already exudes the confidence and finesse of a long-established icon. It’s rare to find a place that manages to feel both effortless and extraordinary, but this one does.

If you’re looking for quiet luxury in one of the most spectacular corners of the world, I cannot recommend it enough. I left feeling recharged, a little sun-kissed and already plotting my return.
