So, What Exactly Is Salicylic Acid and What Does It Do?

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that comes from willow bark. It’s known for its exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a skincare hero for anyone dealing with breakouts, blackheads, or congestion. Unlike alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which work on the skin’s surface, salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it can travel deeper into the pores to clear out excess oil and dead skin. That’s what makes it so effective at keeping spots and clogged pores in check.

Can All Skin Types Benefit from It?

Most can, but it depends on how you use it. Oily and acne-prone skin types tend to benefit the most because salicylic acid helps reduce oil and calm inflammation.
