Sun, saltwater, and endless pool days… summer is all fun and games until your hair starts feeling like straw. If your strands are looking more crispy than luminous after too much sun exposure, don’t panic. We’ve all been there.

For this Beauty SOS, we turned to Limoz Logli, celebrity colourist and founder of Limoz Logli salon, to get his pro tips on reviving parched, sun-damaged hair. From emergency hydration tricks to the best products for repairing UV damage, consider this your ultimate rescue guide for bringing fried hair back to life.

DON’T PANIC, JUST DUST

After a summer of sun, salt, and chlorine, a lot of people think the only solution is to cut it all off and start again. Not true. What your hair probably needs is a good dusting, a technique that snips off split ends without sacrificing length. It instantly makes your hair look fresher, while keeping your style intact. The trick is knowing when to enhance it, and when to bring in the big rescue products.

SHAMPOO LESS, CONDITION MORE

Limit shampooing to 1–2 times a week and switch to a hydrating co-wash or cleansing cream when possible. Always follow with a rich conditioner or mask. For extra moisture, don’t rinse it all the way out, leave a little through the ends (but never the roots).

GLOSS IT BACK TO LIFE

We don’t tone, we gloss, and surprisingly clear or subtly tinted gloss revives colour, seals the cuticle, and brings back light reflection, without damage. It’s one of the easiest, most effective ways to refresh hair that’s lost its shine in the sun.

DON’T GO OTT ON PROTEIN

More isn’t always better when it comes to protein treatments. Too much protein makes hair stiff, brittle, and even more prone to snapping. Balance it with moisture, especially post summer.

SPF YOUR STRANDS

If you wouldn’t lie in the sun without SPF on your face, don’t leave your hair exposed either. UV rays break down colour molecules and strip moisture fast. The easiest, chicest fix? A hat. Just make sure it’s actually covering your hair. It’s the simplest way to protect your colour and cut down on heat damage.

DO YOUR DAYTIME DILIGANCE

It might feel nourishing, but using hair oil in the sun acts like cooking oil. Always apply oils after sun exposure, not before. It’s the same with overnight treatments, which are designed to be sealed in (ideally with a silk pillowcase). Wearing them out and about in the heat just bakes them in and can weigh the hair down or even irritate the scalp.

SLEEP IN SILK (AND SERUM)

Protect your hair overnight by sleeping on a silk pillowcase or wrapping it in a silk scarf. Pair with a lightweight overnight serum through the mid-lengths and ends to reduce frizz and boost softness while you sleep.

AVOID THE TRAP

Some UV filters, like avobenzone, can react with minerals in water or heat from the sun, causing unwanted orange or greenish tones in lightened hair. If your fringe or hairline is grabbing colour weirdly, this could be why. Use a mineral-based sunscreen (zinc or titanium) near the hairline and avoid rubbing product into your roots. Better yet, go for a hair-specific SPF that’s made to protect without the drama. And don’t forget a weekly detox shampoo to clear out build-up before it messes with your tone.

A QUICK FIX

Need a quick gloss for a night out? Rinse your conditioner with cool water, then mist hair with thermal spring water before styling. It helps seal the cuticle and adds a subtle, healthy glow, especially in harsh summer light.
